 I'm going to say that my computer was somehow in a bad state. The problem
 no longer reproduces, despite the fact that I haven't changed ''any''
 settings. It was reproducing every time before, but now I haven't seen it
 in days.

 Sigh. I hate Windows. Sorry to have bothered you about this one again,
 since it's working now. Before bringing it up again I'll be sure to do a
 complete reboot. Or two or three. :)
