Comment:

 Assuming I'm reading that debug log correctly, it looks like pidgin is
 trying to open up incoming ports on your router via UPnP and is unable to
 do that so the incoming connection fails, causing your buddy to suggest
 that a different connection method be tried. I don't see anything about
 trying alternate methods. So it looks like you should either enable UPnP
 on your router, or forward ports.
