Comment:

 There was a recent change that appears similar from a quick glance. I
 can't reproduce this issue as described. I have an ICQ account listed
 above an IRC account in the "Manage Accounts" window. I ran this command,
 which worked: purple-url-handler irc://irc.freenode.net/pidgin

 I'm going to close this as fixed. Hendrik, if this is still reproducible
 in 2.5.5 or later, please reopen this ticket and explain in more detail
 how.
