 currently I have pidgin using two active accounts (msn, facebook)
 whenever I try to open manage accounts it freezes, and it can be seen in
 task manager that max cpu used and massive amounts of memory (250 MB)
 I have tried piping debug into a file, but nothing prints for the time I
 open manage accounts

 yep, and I have tried disabling all plugins
 it does work however when I remove my .pidgin directory, so it must be a
 mis-configuration somewhere
 I do have about 7 disabled accounts though
