 Yes, we differ in what we consider available. You should have seen a
 mobile icon for that buddy entry in the buddy list as well as seeing them
 marked as available. Our choices for how to show someone who is set up to
 forward IMs to their phone, as far as I'm concerned/aware, is either as
 Available+mobile or as Offline+mobile. Since showing them as Offline would
 hide them from the list we chose Available (as I recall, I really don't
 pay much attention to MSN). As I said, we know our handling of this is not
 ideal but I haven't seen any suggestions for concrete things that would
 make it better for everyone.

 For the record, your buddy *was* available, as indicated by the fact that
 he got your IM now, as opposed to at some later date or time. And that's
 just one part of the issue of how to show forward-to-mobile users.
