 Steps to reproduce:

 1. "Close IMs immediately when tab is closed" is unchecked in preferences

 2. Start an active conversation with someone

 3. Close the conversation window

 4. You immediately receive an IM from the same person. Everything is
 normal (ie. blinking tray notification/sound/guification pop up)

 5. You do not open it or touch your mouse for 10 minutes (simulating that
 you stepped away for a while)

 6. After 10 minutes or so pidgin will auto-close the background IM
 connection and go away. This removes the notification and you are unaware
 of the unread IM. It is still in the logs, but no indication that you have
 an unread IM.

 I might be using the wrong terms but I hope you understand what im getting
 at.
 Using Pidgin 2.5.6 on Ubuntu 9.04 compiled from source. But im pretty sure
 i noticed this behavior on Windows before.
