 Pidgin doesn't have to support anything its developers don't want to
 support; all we have to do is act enough like the official clients we
 pretend to be '''''on the wire''''' (that is, at the protocol level) so as
 to be indistinguishable from said official clients.  Implementing the user
 interface is entirely up to us, so if we choose not to implement emoticons
 in the buddy list, that's our prerogative.
