 Grouping is a completely tangential topic to protocol association. I have
 groups like "Pidgin people", "College", and "Friends".  None of those have
 anything to do with what protocol my buddies are on (and in fact I know
 that there's plenty of mix).

 Likewise, someone who doesn't like groups could just put everyone in to
 one group and then be done with it.
