New description:
My pidgin doesn't play the sounds assigned to the events. To be precise,
it seldom plays the sounds.
My soundcard is OK, I've been using xmms, mplayer, ...
I've tried every possible choices within the preferences, the last one is
to use a sound command: aplay -q %s
I have a suspicion that there's something wrong within Pidgin:
when I peform some tests using the "Preview" button for a particular
event, it plays the sound, however, when I keep clicking (reasonably) on
the button, the next sound is played on the, let's say, 5th click.

Comment:
We believe this occurred accidentally. I'm extracting the (relevant) data
from my email and updating this ticket.
Deryni's comment:
{{{
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be anything helpful in that debug
log snippet. You are currently using aplay to play sounds from pidgin? If
you run aplay on its own back-to-back the same way you click Preview in
pidgin does this problem manifest itself?
