 What exactly is the problem here? Maybe I'm being dense, but the only
 "issue" I see (and by the way, the picture does not "say it all") is that
 there appear to be many duplicates of the same groups.

 So the issue is that you have buddies in multiple groups which display the
 same but are not being detected as the same?
