Comment:

 Ctrl+r removes the "link" property for me. If I'd known about Ctrl+r I'd
 have been using that from the beginning as it is a neat workaround.

 I've since noticed that links are recognised or not recognised under
 different protocols. IRC and Facebook do not recognise the links at all
 (regular paste *and* paste-as-plaintext) but XMPP, MXit (based on XMPP),
 and MSN do (also regular paste *and* paste-as-plaintext).

 I'm now using 2.6.3.
