 I'm sorry I should have phrased my question differently.  My apologies.

 It actually only crashes if you don't add @server after the contact's user
 name.

 So for example, you want to add a buddy using "Buddy > Add a buddy..." and
 type in john.smith instead of john.smith at server, it'll crash.
