 With pidgin 2.6.1 running on linux, and logging never having been
 previously enabled, I opened the Preferences window and in the Logging tab
 checked "Log all status changes to system log".  However, the directory
 hierarchy under ~/.purple/logs was not created until I quit pidgin and
 restarted.
