Comment:

 I have seen this behavior in the older versions, but was unable to
 reproduce in Pidgin 2.6.2. With a buddy alias set, asked that buddy to
 send me a message when I was offline, I didn't see "xxx is now known as
 yyy" message.

 Please provide the exact steps to reproduce the bug.
