Comment:

I looked at the video and the debug log, matched them, and I observe that
 for your account b 4 y o u _ b b o g d a n, you do not receive status
update packets from the server initially. Pidgin is a client and works by
processing packets from the server. With no status update packet, there
 will be no status update.

Why the server is not sending you status update for first 20 secs or so?
There is no answer to this question, internal working of the yahoo server
is unknown to us. Maybe it has to do some processing after you login and
before it accepts status change, and for certain reason (like huge friend
list) it takes as much as about 20 secs for the process. No one really
 knows.

Why it worked with 2.5.8, and not with 2.6.2? Around the time 2.5.8 was
released, Yahoo was undergoing lots of protocol/server updates, so maybe
this is something that was introduced thereafter.

You can go back to Pidgin 2.5.8, and try status change on your accounts,
and see if it is now affected with this problem. Probably it will be. If
you do try it out please let me know the result.

From Pidgin's end I don't see anything that I can change to get rid of
 this problem.
