this is going to be similar to ticket #7849 but darkrain42's patched
libpurple.dll didn't solve it for me.
i close my irc chat and use the systray icon to exit pidgin by right-
clicking and selecting the "quit" option. when i do this msn, yahoo and
icq still logged in, yet there are no conversations open/active. it does
not happen 100% of the time and this is not due to the 40sec time that
some folks here have mentioned. also, the network location awareness
(nla)service has always been disabled on my setup, even when i didn't have
this crash.
with an earlier version i already tried an uninstall, registry search and
clean and a reinstall of both pidgin and gtk.
with the standard 2.5.4 version and the alternative libpurple.dll i
managed to get a debug.log which i shall send on request but not post
publicly, as it has too much personal detail to expose or munge.
with the 2.5.4 debug version i recorded a pidgin.rpt which i shall attach
to this post.
ps. I'll leave it as "pending" as I'll leave the authority of that
decision to you - whether or not there are similar open tickets out there.
In my case, it's fixed.

Comment:
No I'm not.
It reduced somewhat, but still very occasionally crashed.
Now, with the new 2.6.2 release, it seem to quit instantaneously, without
any delay or bother at all.
Thanks for keeping tabs on all the ticketed bugs.
Good work.
I love the program and foist it upon others whenever fixing machines,
which will include setting up a worthy IM client for them.
If something similar does occur, and this ticket is closed, I'll just open
another with a new description
