 Our custom cell renderer draws the underline when no background color has
 been set and the cell entry is expanded. Theme files which leave out the
 background color (and the other colors as well) have those fields in the
 theme filled with zeroed GdkColors and not NULL. This makes the default
 color black but causes the underline to never be showable (at least as far
 as I can tell).
