Comment:

I don't know what sort of computer you are using or what sort of tags you
are sending/receiving but we saw definite problems with too many tags.
Letting users set the limit is unhelpful because most users will simply
not understand the option in the slightest and so will be unable to do
anything meaningful with it and will likely set it incorrectly and harm
 themselves.

Doing anything about this issue is not exactly a high priority because
very few people are hit by this issue, you have a patch which solves it
for your usage, and the plan is to replace our custom widget with webkit
 anyway.

I have no idea if other clients have such a feature nor, do I imagine, do
you. Have you tried them all?

I'm going to close this as a duplicate of your original ticket as I don't
think there is anything further to track here. If you really hit this
limit often and applying the patch for each release is annoying you, you
can consider writing a message splitting plugin to detect this case in
outgoing messages and split them into chunks that will display correctly
 in pidgin.

I would accept a patch which added a message to the conversation window
which indicated that formatting was stripped because too many formatting
characters were seen and displaying the message as-is could potentially
 have caused problems.
