#10243: After installing pidgin, it always launched with not my language

Comment(by anoftc):

I have pidgin 2.6.2 installed, PIDGINLANG=EN, so pidgin does launch in
english (native lang: Hungarian). On a virtual machine, I experimented
with a clean 2.6.1 install and upgrade to 2.6.2 and with a clean 2.5.8
 install I tried re-installing 2.5.8 and I tried upgrading to 2.6.1 and
 2.6.2 ...

After purging previous versions, and starting a clean install with 2.5.8
or 2.6.1 installers, a language dropdown list is shown at the start of the
 installer.

When starting a clean install with the 2.6.2 installer, OR when starting
an upgrade from 2.5.8 with 2.5.8 and 2.6.1 installers, the installer
starts in HUNGARIAN, so it doesn't give a sh*t about the pidginlang
setting, it always starts in the language it detects to be the locale of
the current windows (no dropdown list)...

But after the reinstall, pidgin always launched in english... However, I
do remember that I had to re-set the pidginlang at some of the pidgin
upgrades, just I do not know at which version, and I cannot reproduce it
 :)

But come on, the solution of this bug is simple - put the language
dropdown list into the installer which is ALWAYS shown, and put a language
dropdown list into the preferences dialog... And just forget the
pidginlang setting, tell me one other software in windows that works like
 this!! It is just lame...

Of course, you can say - "but in linux, software should respect the global
locale setting, and determine the used language according to the pre-set
locale" - thats true in linux. In windows, programs usually have language
selection settings (and besides, having a language selection setting in
linux wouldn't be that tragical either...).

 Bye,
 Zs
