New description:

 Whenever I talk to a certain friend of mine (as seen on the right in the
 attached image), the top part of the message box is all stretched out and
 cannot be resized. On the left is a message to another friend of mine for
 comparison, which is how everyone else's messages look.

 This started happening yesterday, for no apparent reason. Said friend uses
 Trillian, so I'm fairly certain the problem is not on his end. And I
 haven't encountered the issue with anybody else.
