 Greetings!

I am not quite sure on the method to use to explain my problem, but I
shall give it my best shot. I happen to own a French keyboard, and my
computer runs on a legal copy of Windows 7 (64 bits), with it's language
set to English(Canada). Pidgin works perfectly fine, but my problem lies
in the fact that I cannot seem to use special symbols while typing to my
friends. The way my keyboard functions, I must hold CTRL and ALT, both at
the same time, while pressing certain keys as to be able to input certain
 symbols. These symbols are the following: ¯ ~ { [ ] } ± @ £ ¢ ¤ ¬ ¦ ² ³
 ¼ ½ ¾

I can still ''use'' these symbols, but that requires me to copy and paste
them over in a conversation. If I try to input them normally inside a
conversation, the chat cursor will stop blinking, but it will act as if
nothing happened, as if nothing was ever typed. I tried changing the font
in my settings, or checking other settings to see if anything would be
conflicting with these symbols being input, but failed at finding
anything. A friend of mine also tried helping, alas to no avail. I've
tried with other programs, and everything else allows me to input these
symbols the normal way, but Pidgin does not.

That is why I would like to know if there is a way to fix this?
Apparently, my other friends who also use Pidgin do not have this problem,
but then again, they do not own a French keyboard.

Thank you in advance for your help!
