Comment:

 Detecting the non-VMWare adapter still wouldn't work well, since
 10.0.0.0/8 is RFC1918 private space.  Your best bet is to check the "Use
 automatically detected IP address" and set a STUN server (last I knew,
 stunserver.org was down, so try stun.ekiga.net
