 I cannot supply a debug log yet (waiting for it to happen again), but can
 add that the gmail chat widget appears to work fine. Some buddies leave
 "afterimages", continuing to appear as online and available in pidgin, but
 off-line in the gmail widget. It seems, furthermore, that the widget
 displays the correct status, since messages sent to the afterimages via
 pidgin either never reach them, or appear later in gmail as messages sent
 off-line.

 It seems to happen when buddies log in and out very quickly, though I
 cannot be sure of this. I can attest to snkaniff's observation that it
 suddenly started recently, with no change in pidgin version. I'm running
 pidgin on a mixed Debian system.
