 Not sure if this helps, but I am seeing the exact same issue using Empathy
 on my 9.10 Ubuntu install (ie it crashes on incoming video from gtalk but
 works on outgoing video gtalk).

 So, I think it's a pretty clear indication that the issue is happening
 somewhere where Pidgin and Empathy have common code.
