 Yes, it does look like that, though I'm at a loss as to explain why.

 > pidgin-2.4.2 and pidgin-2.6.6 depend on the same version of cyrus-sasl
 on the 10.6 dist which I am using...pidgin-2.4.4 works fine connecting to
 xmpp, but pidgin-2.6.6 breaks on SASL authenticate for me too. Under 10.6.

 Please attach the Help->Debug Window (or "pidgin -d") output.
