 Currently Pidgin embeds messages like connection errors and add requests
 directly at the bottom of the buddy list.

 Problems:

 1) The buddy list can be resized far smaller than such a message needs
 space. Thus not the full message is readable and buttons can be invisible.

 2) There is no other visual indication about such messages. If your buddy
 list is always hidden, you miss most of the messages.

 Thus my suggestion is to optionally pop out dialog windows for messages
 instead. And/or offer an interface to let plugins handle notification
 about messages.
