 I'm not able to reproduce this.

 Looking at file.txt I see "Sending IM" on
 [http://developer.pidgin.im/attachment/ticket/11744/file.txt#L816 line
 816], and I see you getting disconnected 4 seconds later.  However, in the
 outgoing message charset is 0x0002 and length is 14.  Charset 2 is
 unicode, and I don't see any characters in the link you pasted that would
 cause the message to be sent as unicode rather than ascii.  Also, the link
 you pasted is certainly longer than 14 letters.

 Am I doing something wrong?
