barfs on the characters, and the latter of which says that an entity (i.e.
Pidgin) "MUST NOT accept data that is not XML-well-formed").
It's unfortunate (though somewhat understandable) that Openfire, alone
among all the servers I'm familiar with, allows through invalid characters
instead of (like all other servers) terminating the offending client-to-
server connection when it receives the invalid character.
