 Just re-reading my title/description, I should've be more clear. I'm
 behind a proxy, but I've always selected to bi-pass it in the options
 (Tools -> Preferences -> Proxy: "No Proxy") since I've used pidgin and
 it's has worked fine. Nor do I plan to go through the proxy in the future
 either.

 Sorry for the confusion. I'm guessing in any case this bug #12436 is the
 same as #11986 as you have marked. Although it is not obvious straight
 away.

 Keep up the great work and if you need any other info, please ask.
