#12477: "Waiting for network connection" when my computer sleeps?

I've been using Digsby, but wanted to switch to Pidgin because I like the
ideals of open source stuff. Pidgin works great, but I am having one
 annoyance with it.

I'm using it on a laptop that has a wi-fi connection. Whenever I close the
computer for a good length of time (for the night or while I'm at work)
and I reopen it, Pidgin shows me as available, but has a message saying
"Waiting for network connection" and will not show any of my contacts.

If I close Pidgin and reopen, everything works fine. But I would like to
see some sort of plug-in like the "Disconnect All" plug-in for
Instantbird. Then if Pidgin does this "Waiting for network connection"
thing, I could just click a button to have Pidgin reconnect without
 closing the program.

Perhaps that feature is already part of Pidgin, but if so, I can not find
 it.
