Comment:

 Shucks, guess there really isn't anything to do then at this point. First
 time hearing about 'packet capture' and it seems over my head, so I'll
 have to let this one go - no real hindrances to chatting with the contact
 after setting up that Yahoo IM account though. So, if anyone's reading
 this and running into a similar problem, I'd suggest that route for now.

 Hopefully some kind of solution can be pulled out of the newer protocols,
 should you keep this problem in mind.
