 I was just looking for keyboard shortcuts to update pidgin status and I
 found an easy way:
 you can use purple-remote to set status a message from the command-line,
 like this:
 {{{
 purple-remote "setstatus?status=available&message="
 }}}
 so you create a script file for each of your need, you assign a global
 keyboard shortcut to it and you're done!
 I personally use Win+A, Win+W, Win+B undex xfce, works like a charm :)
