Comment:

 I don't know how I failed to comment on this ticket; I must have imagined
 it.

 This debug log reads to me that the server is sending back BOSH replies,
 but not bothering to route back the ping reply (error) stanza.

 This doesn't look like an issue with Pidgin.  Packet captures and ejabberd
 logs might reveal more, but I'm not sure.
