 I haven't tested other IM services, but at least when using Yahoo
 Messenger, if I attempt to send an IM that is too long, it completely
 loses the message and prints:

 '''Unable to send message: The message is too large.'''

 This is a bug, in that it causes lost data, not just a feature request.
 And by definition it only loses particularly long messages, which are far
 more painful to lose.

 Either it should leave (or replace) the long message in the message box
 when it gets that error, or it shouldn't allow me to type too many letters
 in the message box to begin with. I shouldn't have to guess whether I've
 typed too many characters, and worry about copy-and-pasting my message to
 prevent it from being lost.

 To reproduce this bug, connect to someone via Yahoo Messenger and enter a
 very long message. I've tried:

 "Hey, want to test something real quick."

 ...copy and pasted about 15 times.

 After losing a very detailed answer to a question, I was so annoyed I
 almost immediately uninstalled Pidgin, after years of being a faithful
 user. That's how serious this bug is. I've reconsidered, but please fix
 this ASAP.
