Comment:

 Being able to select multiple people wouldn't really help with sending
 them all the same message because you would still need to copy and paste
 the message into each conversation window manually even if you could open
 them all up at once. Or am I missing something about what you are
 expecting it to allow you to do?

 We do not allow multi-selection in the buddy list because it complicates
 how things like the right-click menu and some of the Buddy List window
 menu items function in ways that may or may not always be obvious to
 everyone. We also feel that, in general, the benefits of allowing multi-
 selection in the buddy list are few.
