 I'm using a usb mic built-in my webcam. Unfortunately pidgin doesn't
 allow me to use it. The voice & video configuration plugin does not
 permit me to choose from which device audio input comes. Thus pidgin
 uses ALSA's default. I can circumvent this issue by setting my usb mic as
 default capture device and it works like a charm, but I think it's better
 to have control within pidgin itself, just as ekiga, for example.

 This I've tested running Debian GNU/Linux Squeeze 6.0 with pidgin version
 2.7.3
 Has the plugin been updated to support this feature in more recent
 versions?
