 Keyboard layouts that use "Dead Keys" (e.g. apostrophe key + u produces ú)
 generally  work (there are exceptions).

 According to wikipedia
 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Irish) this is the case for
 the Irish keyboard too (but with the grave accent key instead of the
 apostrophe).

 Try hitting ` and then u to see if it creates a ú.
