Comment:

 You can delete the plugins that provide protocols other than pidgin from
 the install directory (you'll want to leave both libjabber.(dll|so) and
 libxmpp.(dll|so), as both are necessary for XMPP.

 If you want to archive chats, you could use a plugin which transmits the
 logs to an authoritative server to do so, or you could set up logging on
 the server.  The former is not likely to be implemented in Pidgin (as I
 said, it can be done as a plugin), and the latter does not require client-
 side support.
