Comment:

 Oh ... apparently this is another freenode non-standardism.  It looks like
 this is a feature which allows you to provide both a username and password
 to freenode for identification (probably for the case where you log in
 with an unregistered nick), in the form of username:password.  If that is
 the case, you should be able to put your regular username in this field,
 followed by a colon, and your password. ''E.g.'', if your registered
 !NickServ username were graphiclunarkid, try using
 {{{graphiclunarkid:SKLI2uHhG:$<}}}.

 This is not at all a Pidgin bug, and there's nothing (reasonable) that we
 can do about it.  You'll need to provide a username/password pair which
 makes freenode happy, or use a password without a colon.
