Comment:

 Only source code, pre-release and backports aren't checked. Not sure how
 Ubuntu ended up having a perl-base where the version is too high for the
 installer.

 Reverted back to Hardy (8.04) which has perl-base 5.8.8-12 and
 Installation went off without a problem.
