Comment:

 Your debug log isn't useful - there is nobody else online according to
 that log.
 If there were other clients on the same network online, then pidgin
 received no notification of it.

 Does `avahi-discover` see the other clients?

 If not, you'll have to fix that before Pidgin will work.
