Thank you for your reply, darkrain42.

I read about these debug log instructions before I submitted this issue,
but as Pidgin doesn't crash in my case, I supposed it wasn't of much use.
I'll keep running Pidgin from within gdb for now, and will attach a debug
log as soon as I have one. Unfortunately, the issue doesn't always occur,
nor with any obvious regularity. I don't know how to force or provoke it
to happen. Today Pidgin even ran and remained offline for hours. So,
hopefully, Pidgin won't halt again with the many gdb messages "---Type
<return> to continue, or q <return> to quit---" now, while I wait.

In the statusbox dropdown I have the bare "Offline" status, plus -
according to its icon - one historical status named with an old away
message. When MSN connected unwantedly, I only tried the bare and real
 "Offline", never the other one.

 My enabled plugins:
 - History 2.6.5
 - I'dle Mak'er 2.6.5
 - Libnotify Popups 0.14
 - Message Notification 2.6.5
 - Message Timestamp Formats 2.6.5
 - MusicTracker 0.4.20
 - Nautilus Integration 0.8
 - New Line 2.6.5
 - Off-the-Record Messaging 3.2.0
 - Pidgin GTK+ Theme Control
 - Privacy Please 0.5.1

Well, that's all I have for now. Hope that helps a bit. :-)

 Regards,
 G
