New description:

 Line breaks in status messages appear as spaces on the buddy list.

 It seems any line breaks in a status message set in Pidgin are retained in
 the entry field, but they appear as spaces on the buddy list. That is,
 when the pointer is over a buddy and their status expands, their status
 messages are shown as a single line, even if there are line breaks.

 Thus, a status message such as...

 {{{
 This is
 a status
 message.
 }}}

 ...will display as...

 {{{
 This is a status message.
 }}}
