 I'm also having this problem and also ticket #11142 seems to correspond to
 this issue. It occurred with versions 2.6.4 and 2.6.5. To analyze this
 problem, I looked into the XML-Response when Pidgin was trying to login.
 There I found the following message:

 useTLS=1 is not allowed for non secure requests.
 }}}

 After disabling SSL the problem doesn't occur anymore.
