 Yes, that solved the problem. Thank you very much. I'm still wondering why
 someone should block such a important service. How did you get the Connect
 Server? From the the pidgin log?

 I don't think GMX is running two XMPP servers. From looking up the log
 when using my gmx.net and my gmx.de account there is only the connect
 server you mentioned. They only use different domains for their accounts.
 If you meant that with your question.
