 Currently the buddylist window contains a single column of user names.
 Especially if the buddylist window is rescaled rather wide, it only moves
 usernames and icons further apart.

 My enchancement suggestion is to allow for multi-column display in the
 buddylist. This way a shorter but wider buddy list would still provide a
 decent display.

 Main reason for my suggestion is the limited display space of some
 netbooks (800x480) where a fullscreen buddylist makes more sense than a
 "sidebar". Also in an extreme form this would allow for a top or bottom
 ticker on the screen, with a buddy list that's only one item long, but
 several items wide

 I could imagine the user is given an option to decide on the minimum width
 of columns and the number of columns, and the buddylist adds columns or
 horizontal scrolling as needed.
