Comment(by arudil):

 Pidgin already supports Jabber Voice Chat, which is a quite cool feature.
 Supporting Voice Calls over SIP would bring Pidgin one more step to be
 feature-complete.
 As there are probably some good libraries for sip-voice-backend available,
 this could be some easy task.
