 I just installed pidgin at the suggestion of a coworker.  At work (and I
 work for an international computer company, sadly) we use Sametime which
 is a memory hog and it crashes and has all kinds of lovely problems.  It
 died on my machine and while I'm waiting waiting waiting for our helpdesk
 to fix it, if they can, I installed pidgin so I could continue to use
 sametime which, despite it's frailty, is necessary to my job.  It works
 GREAT with sametime.  No complaints.  I just can't get it to shake hands
 with gtalk for some reason.  here are my settings: protocol: xmpp,
 username: paradoxymoron4242, domain: gmail.com, resource: I left blank,
 had no idea what to put there, password: entered my correct google
 password.  I didn't change anything else.  When I tell it to connect it
 tries then say unable to connect, nothing else.  I am using this through a
 VPN, which I suppose could have an effect, though I know others who have
 used pidgin successfully through our company VPN.  I don't have any
 plugins installed.  Any suggestions?
