New description:

 It happens at random and I have no error messages, and this is off fresh
 installs each and every single time. In fact, it automatically closes. I
 thought it was because I was running two instances (as the both the help
 section and FAQ warn against that, but unless something is opening a
 second Pidgin instance (and closing the first without my knowledge), this
 is not it.

 Version 2.7.2 isn't available for Windows, so this solution is not
 possible to implement at the current time.
