 finding, so I guess it must have been to some kind of monotone misuse on
 my part. Probably pulled changes but failed to update my working tree.

 Do I interpret that mechanism correctly in that it simply chooses a known-
 to-exist server when the http hoast (load balancer?) ist unavailable?
 Should work as long as there aren't too many Pidgin users, so that host
 can take the load. A vcs2-based approach might still be preferable,
 though, with that fixed host as fallback.
